1.Brief introduction.
LEL detector measures dangerous levels of all combustible gas in air, show in percent lower explosive limitation,we call it EX gas detector as well. The LEL gas detector works on the principle of catalytic combustion. This sensor detects the concentration of combustible gas through combustion reaction. It contains a heated platinum resistance wire as a heating element. When the combustible gas contacts the resistance wire and is heated, the heat generated during the combustion process will affect the resistance value change of the resistance wire, thereby measuring the concentration of the gas. When the resistance wire is exhausted, a new lel sensor needs to be replaced.
The LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) gas detector is a specialized instrument for detecting the Lower Explosive Limit concentration of combustible gases and is widely used in safety monitoring in industries such as petrochemicals, coal mines and gas.

4.The explosion limit range of different gases:
When combustible gas, vapor of combustible liquid (or combustible dust) mixes with air and reaches a certain concentration, it will explode when it encounters a fire source. This concentration range in which an explosion can occur is called the explosion limit, which is usually expressed as the volume percentage of combustible gas, vapor or dust in the air. Within the "explosion concentration range", a minimum explosion level we call it the lower explosion limit; and a maximum explosion lel we call it upper explosion limitation. Only between these two concentrations is there a risk of explosion.The explosion limit of different combustible gases refers to the concentration limit at which an explosion will occur when the combustible gas reaches a certain concentration range in the air. For example, the explosion limit range of hydrogen is wide and the danger is high.
Methane (natural gas): 5.0% - 15.0%.
Hydrogen: 4.0% - 75.0%.
Carbon monoxide: 12.5% - 74.2%.
Acetylene: 2.3% - 100%.
Gasoline: 1.0% - 6.0%.
Ethanol (alcohol): 3.0% - 19.0%.
Propane: 2.1% - 9.5%.
Ethane: 3.0% - 12.4%
5.Maintenance
(1).Ensure that the LEL detector shows zero in an environment without target gas
(2).Use calibration gas of standard concentration to calibrate once a year.
(3).Sensor lifespan (usually 2 to 3 years), replace in time
