A New Study Suggests That By 2026, Smart Home Devices Could Help You Find Love

- Dec 01, 2016-

While online dating was once seen as a last resort for meeting a partner, one in five relationships now starts online.

And it appears that the future may extend the ways to use technology to find love even further.

A new study suggests that by 2026, smart home devices, including your toaster and wardrobe, could help you find love.

The report, called 'Future of Dating: Smart Dating', was commissioned by dating site, eHarmony.co.uk, and explores the impact that technology may have on our love lives in the coming years.

Researchers from Imperial College Business School analysed more than 100 years of data, to predict that by 2026, information from smart gadgets could be used to match people with prospective partners.

They suggest that four million new relationships could be formed this way – a figure that could rise even further to 12 million by 2036.

Worldwide, there are currently an estimate 6.4 billion connected devices.

Rather than relying on self-assessment, smart devices could go one step further and record limitless amounts of data about your personality, preferences and behaviour.

According to the report, by 2021 'smart showers' could be the norm, and by 2026 our entire homes will be smart.

While becoming progressively more 'smart' may seem excessive, information gathered by smart devices could improve a range of aspects of life, from energy efficiency to love lives.
