How To Detect The Toxic And Harmful Gases Produced By Tunnel Construction

- Oct 18, 2024-

Most of the highway tunnels are flat structures, and the poisonous and harmful gases in the tunnels are the main hazards in the construction work. On the other hand, the underground construction environment of the tunnel is poor. For a long time, it is affected by large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor, no air circulation, and high humidity, etc., if the construction is improper, it is easy to have major safety accidents. The harmful gases in the tunnel mainly include methane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other gases. Among them, oxygen must also be detected, because once the oxygen in the tunnel is not enough, the operator is likely to have anoxic asphyxia, affecting the safety of life, we can divide it into two categories of combustible gas and toxic gas according to chemical properties.

The main component of the flammable gas in the tunnel is methane (CH4, also known as gas), and the main hazard is the explosion caused by gas combustion. However, combustible gas explosion must have certain conditions, such as quantitative flammable gas, sufficient oxygen and fire source. None of the above conditions is necessary. The IQ at which a combustible gas explodes is usually called the explosion limit, expressed by LEL. Different combustible gases have different LEL, and we test the LEL of all combustible gases.

The toxic gases in the tunnel are mainly hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide. After these gases enter the body, they lead to hypoxia of tissue cells, which can easily lead to safety accidents caused by anoxic asphyxia. In order to prevent the hidden dangers of underground tunnel construction and ensure the construction safety and the health of operators, it is necessary to install a high anti-interference, safe and stable gas detector in the tunnel to ensure the construction safety and the health of operators.

1. Fixed gas detector

More tests can be used on industrial plants and in the production process. It can be installed at a specific point to be monitored for specific gas detection, and the instrument comes with audible and visual alarm reminder, which can transmit the detected signal to the display terminal in real time for easy monitoring.

In addition, considering the poor construction environment of the tunnel, it is necessary to install explosion-proof, waterproof and moisture-proof equipment in the tunnel, and the installation location is determined by the specific gravity of the gas and the leak source.

2. Portable gas detector

Small size, simple and convenient operation. Easy for personal use in the tunnel anti-slip turn. At present, portable gas detectors all use rechargeable batteries with a battery life of more than 12 hours. Perfect guarantee full range of protection during work.
