What Are The Types Of H2S Gas Detectors ?

- Oct 06, 2025-

The detection range of a hydrogen sulfide gas detector mainly depends on its design purpose, sensor type (electrochemical, catalytic combustion, semiconductor, optical, etc.) and application scenarios (personal safety, area monitoring, process control, etc.). The following are common classifications of detection ranges:

1.Low concentration range (ppm level - parts per million) :

Typical range: 0 ppm to 100 ppm or 0 ppm to 200 ppm.

Application: This is the most common range, used for personnel safety protection and workplace environmental monitoring.

Alarm Settings: The low alarm point is usually set at 5-10 ppm, and the high alarm point is set at 10-20 ppm.

Sensor: Mainly electrochemical sensors are used, as they have high sensitivity to low concentrations of H₂S, good selectivity and low power consumption (suitable for portable instruments).

2. Medium concentration range (ppm level) :

Typical range: 0 ppm to 500 ppm or 0 ppm to 1000 ppm.

Application: It is used for monitoring areas where there may be a high risk of leakage at high concentrations, such as monitoring the entry of confined Spaces, oil and gas production platforms, oil refineries, sewage treatment plants, chemical plants and other specific areas. It is also used in some portable detectors that require a wider coverage range.

Key point: Electrochemical sensors can also cover this range, but when approaching the upper limit, the accuracy may decline or a specially designed sensor is required.

3.H2S personal gas monitors

Portable hydrogen sulfide detector, capable of continuously detecting the leakage concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas in the working environment. The hydrogen sulfide detector measures gas concentration by natural diffusion and adopts imported electrochemical sensors, featuring excellent sensitivity and outstanding repeatability. The hydrogen sulfide detector adopts embedded micro-control technology, with a simple menu operation, complete functions and high reliability. The casing of the detector is made of high-strength engineering materials and composite elastic rubber materials, featuring high strength and a good hand feel.

4. Pump suction type hydrogen sulfide detector

The pump suction type hydrogen sulfide detector adopts an internal suction pump, which can quickly detect the concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the working environment. The pump suction type hydrogen sulfide detector adopts imported electrochemical sensors, featuring a very clear large LCD screen and audible and visual alarm prompts, ensuring that it can detect hazardous gases and promptly alert operators to take preventive measures even in extremely unfavorable working environments.

5. Online hydrogen sulfide detection alarm

The online hydrogen sulfide detection alarm consists of a gas detection alarm controller and a fixed hydrogen sulfide detector. The gas detection alarm controller can be placed in the duty room to monitor and control each monitoring point. The hydrogen sulfide detector is installed at the location where gas is most likely to leak, and its core component is the gas sensor. The hydrogen sulfide detector converts the hydrogen sulfide concentration detected by the sensor into an electrical signal, which is transmitted through a cable to the gas detection alarm controller. The higher the gas concentration, the stronger the electrical signal. When the gas concentration reaches or exceeds the alarm point set by the alarm controller, the gas detection alarm controller will issue an alarm signal and can start external devices such as solenoid valves and exhaust fans to automatically eliminate potential hazards. The online hydrogen sulfide detection alarm is widely used in environments such as petroleum, chemical engineering, metallurgy, power, coal mines, and water plants, effectively preventing the occurrence of explosion accidents.
